Dear Community Leader,
I want to invite you to apply for Leadership Southwest, the premier leadership development program. Founded in 1985, Leadership Southwest aim is to provide our community with an ongoing source of diverse leaders who are prepared and committed to serve as catalysts and sustainers of positive change for the quality of life.
Leadership Southwest seeks to bring together community leaders of diverse backgrounds delivering an outstanding leadership experience, and emphasizing critical social and community issues. We will create an open dialogue amongst emerging and current community leaders and give participants an opportunity to apply their leadership skills throughout the community. The program is a professional development opportunity for men and women who are both acknowledged and aspiring leaders who are passionate about the future of our region.
Each year, up to 40 leaders are selected to participate in a ten-month educational program that includes a one day retreat, nine monthly day-long sessions, and provide consultation to a non-profit organization. Participants receive in-depth exposure to the critical issues facing the community through lectures, discussion groups, on-site visits, simulations, and other leadership development activities delivered by UNT Dallas professor, Dr. Larry Terry. Issues to be addressed during the year include human services, government and politics, economic development, health care, criminal justice, education, and more.
The program enables participants to develop their leadership capacities, gain valuable contacts, and prepare themselves for the challenges of the years to come. Most importantly, Leadership Southwest builds confidence and motivation to become actively involved in promoting positive change for the Dallas region.
